I still remember when I tried Sumatra for the first time. I wandered into a small coffee roasting house in the Sunset District of San Francisco, in 1999. I had never heard of Sumatra Coffee before and I had no idea that people could
roast their own beans.
It was the best cup of coffee
I had ever had.
It changed my life!
When you buy from a local artist, you are helping support that artist and their family, as well as the local economy.
I will be at the Peoria Flea Market on the 4th Sunday of every month, as well as during the periodic Northwoods Mall Craft Shows. Batch offerings are always available, and I host monthly Facebook coffee roasting events.

My love of coffee started at a very young age. I remember my first cup covered in whipped cream on a roundtrip flight from Peoria International Airport to Dulles International in the early 1970's, followed by the weekly trip to Baskin Robbins, with my dad, in West Peoria, Illinois. I began roasting after attending the Specialty Coffee Association of America Conference in Long Beach, California in 2007.
My family opened our first business, Stucco House Coffee Roasters in Murphy North Carolina,
in September of that year. It was there, where I cultivated my craft.
After fighting through the recession for 5 years, Johnny and I moved back to my hometown, Peoria, Illinois in late 2012.
I have one son, Johnathon, whom I adore. I am his biggest fan, and he mine.

At Jo’sJoe, I’ll help you discover custom-roasted coffee that you’ll truly enjoy, from the first to the last cup. For many people, specialty coffee can feel mysterious, confusing or even a bit daunting. Some of the folks I roast for once felt like they had missed the boat—that it was something meant only for a younger generation. But that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Specialty coffee isn’t about exclusivity. If anything, it’s about connection—family, community, friendship—and, of course, great coffee.
I try to keep a nice variety of different countries of origin in stock, and I always roast fan favorites like Costa Rica, Colombian, Brazil, El Salvador, Peru & Guatemalan offerings. If you prefer, you can order any 5lb batch from my specialty green coffee suppliers as well. The turn around time on batch roasts is 72hrs, and a sample of another coffee offering is included in every order.

In addition, I repurpose locally sourced, gently used coffee cups, knickknacks, and clothing. Many are thoughtfully reimagined with the Jo'sJoe logo and artwork, because value, usefulness, and beauty endure.
We are all living art, surviving art, rescued art,
pieced together with love and coffee.
